WEDDINGS

We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Matrimony at special events called “weddings.” But the sacrament itself is displayed through the loving relationship of the married couple throughout their lifetimes. Being married in the setting of the church recognizes and celebrates God’s sustaining presence in your love. As you embark upon your married life together, we at St. Mark’s welcome you into our church to celebrate your wedding!

Here are answers to a few questions about which you may be wondering. For a more detailed description of our wedding policy, along with a fee structure and forms to fill out, please see below to download our wedding booklet.

May we get married at St. Mark’s even if we’re not members?
Yes, you can. One member of the couple needs to be a baptized Christian, but neither needs to be an Episcopalian.

How early do we have to reserve the church?
We don’t have a set policy on this, but as Mystic is an idyllic spot to get married, you may want to lock in a date on the early side. If it’s more than a year out from your proposed date, please wait to contact us until you reach the one year before mark.

How do we reserve our date?
Email Pastor Adam Thomas (rector@stmarksmystic.org) or call the church office during business hours (M-Th, 9-12:30). We’ll check the schedule, then pencil you in. Our number is (860) 572-9549. After reserving your date, please send your paperwork to our office during the next 10 business days. The paperwork can be found in the middle of the wedding booklet, which you can download below.

Is pre-marital counseling mandatory?
Yes, it is. Pastor Adam will schedule three to five counseling sessions with you in the months leading up to your wedding date. If you live far away, we’ll connect via Zoom or FaceTime.

How many people does your church hold?
There will be no elbow room if you hit 200. 150 is comfortable.

Does your church allow same-sex ceremonies?
Yes.

What about re-marriage after divorce?
Yes, though there’s some extra paperwork to do involving getting permission from the bishop.

How much does it cost to get married at St. Mark’s?
The current donation and fee structure is part of the wedding booklet, which you can download below.
