With Easter so early this year, the season of Lent is right around the corner. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which February 10th this year. On this day, we gather to worship and to remember our own fragility and transience; to repent our sinfulness and seek forgiveness; and to rededicate ourselves to practicing our faith in preparation for a holy Lent. Services are at 7am and 7pm on February 10th. We also observe Ash Wednesday at our weekly service at StoneRidge retirement community; because of a scheduling conflict the service there will be at 9am (instead of 10:30am).
On the night before Ash Wednesday, we gather for a meal on the night known as Shrove Tuesday. Tradition teaches us to consume all the starch in the house before the beginning of Lent, and we symbolize this by…what else…eating pancakes! Dinner starts at 6pm on February 9th.
